Written by George Socha | Dec 14, 2022 5:23:59 PM

Jeff Shapiro, Director, Forensic & Integrity Services at EY, joins George Socha, Senior Vice President of Brand Awareness at Reveal, for ACEDS #eDiscoveryLeadersLive broadcast from Ireland’s Legal Tech Conference 2022 at Croke Park in Dublin.

A lawyer specializing in legal technology, eDiscovery, and data investigations, Jeff is a leader within EY’s Forensic Technology practice group where he manages and oversees the delivery of eDiscovery and data analytics services.

After talking about his role at EY, Jeff discussed structured data, an area he feels is only now coming into its own in eDiscovery. He talked about the importance of examining structured data as well as unstructured data, how to work effectively with both types of data, and the differences involving in tackling structured content. Jeff went over the value to be had from focusing on this content and what clients can get from it. Jeff turned to a panel he would be on shortly after we held the session and why the focus of that panel matters, then closed the discussion with thoughts about his greatest accomplishments at EY and in eDiscovery.

Key Quotes

  • “Having that tight collaboration between structured data analysts and your traditional discovery unstructured consultants has been key in providing these services.”
  • “The ideal situation is that you would have a centralized platform that via APIs can hook into structured data sources, could communicate with your unstructured data sources, and then merge them together to tell the single source of truth about what happened when and what you need to know.”
  • “If you can understand what your partners and associates, your investigators and consultants, are trying to achieve, then it’s much easier to show how the technology can help them achieve that goal or those outcomes.”
